ALLAN VINCENT BROWNE
All at Jazzhead were deeply saddened at the news of Allan Browne's passing on Saturday.
There has been an outpouring of emotion from the jazz community. Al was a mentor, a leader, a driving force, free spirit and a joy. To Jazzhead he was an inspiration of open-minded review and expression, a reminder that nothing is old, done or really fully explored. He was fresh, playing each track like it was the first time.
Al is a daily reminder that we each can choose how to express our own unique voice. But perhaps more he was champion of reminding us that we have a responsibility to help others find their own voice and help, encourage, allow them to express their voice.
We will sorely miss the calls from Al letting us know that he has another crazy recording for us to hear, just wondering if we would like to consider it for release (assuring us it was sufficiently out there that no-one else would touch it).
Allan Vincent Browne was the only person we know who could call you 'one good cat' and it really meant something.
The grief the jazz community are felling at the loss of Al must pale at that felt by his family. Jazzhead wish them every sympathy and thought at this time.
